-What is Mapplate^TM ?

Mapplate^TM is a tool for designing customised web maps , using a skin based mapping template .

Customised web maps : Change the look and feel of a web map, by changing its layout and by integrating customised GIS functionality.

Mapping template : The structure of Mapplate's web maps is set in a configurable template.

Skin based : The layout of Mapplate's web maps is based on CSS skins. Graphics can be added to further customise the web map's layout .

Mapplate^TM uses technology which makes it:

1. platform independent (windows, linux, mac, ...);
2. browser independent (firefox, ie, google chrome, opera, safari, ...);
3. compatible with all web mapping service technologies providing a javascript API, like ArcGIS Online, Google Maps, Virtual Earth, ArcGIS Server, .... .
   

Mapplate^TM consists of 3 components :

1. Mapping template -  the core of your web map, a configurable html file defining the layout of your web map.
2. Management tool (Mapplate Manager ) - the JAVA application to configure the mapping template (location of toolbars, buttons, icons, navigation tools, custom functions etc…).
3. Skins - defining the look and feel of your web map. As these skins can be developed by web designers (familiar with CSS and designing graphical objects), your web map can blend in with every possible website.
   

Target groups?

Mapplate^TM primarily targets the GIS developers, specialised in setting up integrated web based GIS applications. As they mainly focus on implementing a well functioning web application, the graphical aspects of the user interface are best managed by (graphic) web designers.

Therefore, Mapplate^TM brings GIS developers and (graphic) web designers closer together, by using a skin to define the final look and feel of a web map. The development of these skins requires knowledge of CSS and graphic design and can be done by independent skin builders. GIS developers can use these skins to make their application blend in with the customer's website.

Mapplate^TM cuts down on the development costs of a customised web map for your website.
